Pakistan is set to establish a 150-acre Automotive Processing Zone at Port Qasim, Karachi, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s automotive ecosystem and improve industrial and trade infrastructure.

Announced by the Federal Ministry of Maritime Affairs, the proposed facility will be developed within the Port Qasim industrial corridor and expanded in phases according to market demand. The location is expected to provide direct access to port infrastructure, helping reduce inland logistics requirements for imported and exported vehicles.

According to the project plan, the Automotive Processing Zone will comprise 264 operational units across five specialised segments. These will include commercial units, vehicle refurbishment workshops, car display units, machinery yards and auto spare-parts facilities.

The initiative comes as Pakistan looks to modernise its automotive sector, strengthen local industry and improve its position within regional supply chains. Improved logistics and dedicated industrial infrastructure could also support greater investment and facilitate automotive trade.

The proposed zone represents another step towards developing a more integrated automotive ecosystem in Pakistan, connecting manufacturing, vehicle services, spare parts and trade infrastructure through a strategically located industrial hub.

The project will be developed and expanded in line with future market requirements.
